By combining these three components, all readily available in Northern Jutland, Fjord PtX will become one of the largest Power-to-X facilities in Scandinavia, producing synthetic Sustainable Aviation Fuel (eSAF). eSAF is a so called “drop-in” aviation fuel and can be blended up to 50% with traditional oil-based jet fuel, requiring no modification of the plane engines. When fully deployed, eSAF has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 80% compared to conventional fossil aviation fuel.
Green Partnerships
By developing a Carbon Capture facility adjacent to Nordværk, Fjord PtX will utilize CO2 currently coming from the incineration of household waste collected across five municipalities in Northern Jutland (Aalborg, Brønderslev, Hjørring, Jammerbugt and Rebild). This CO2 will be transported via a dedicated 7 kms pipeline to Fjord PtX, making regional waste a key feedstock for synthetic Sustainable Aviation Fuel production.
Located at Norbis Park, Fjord PtX benefits from the existing infrastructure at Norbis Park. Fjord PtX will also deliver excess heat directly into the district heating network operated by Aalborg Forsyning for the benefit of all households in Aalborg Municipality.
Investing in Northern Jutland
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, as owner of the project, will be investing over 1.5-2 billion euro in Fjord PtX. This substantial investment aims to boost job creation in Northern Jutland, with the project expected to generate up to 200 permanent jobs upon completion and employ numerous local contractors during the construction phase.
This investment will contribute to the Danish domestic green flight objective by 2030 and contribute to meet the European eSAF blend-in requirement by 2030.
