ABOUT US

Organization

Fjord PtX is a project in the CI Energy Transition I Fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). CIP specializes in energy infrastructure investments and is the world’s largest dedicated fund manager within greenfield renewable energy investments. The CI Energy Transition Fund I focuses on the next generation of renewable energy infrastructure including industrial-scale Power-to-X (PtX) projects and the decarbonization of the so-called hard-to-abate industries such as shipping, land transport, and aviation using green fuels.

Fjord PtX marks one of the first investments in the Energy Transition Fund on Danish soil, and the project team is physically present working from an office at Nordjyllandsværket in Aalborg, Denmark.

Project Description

Fjord PtX is a leading, Danish Power-to-X (PtX) project, deploying large-scale industrial use of electrolysis technology, at the 200-400 MW level, to produce eFuels. The PtX plant will be powered by green electricity from renewable sources, including energy from wind and solar. Based on this CO2-free production process, Fjord PtX will be able to offer SAF and eNaphtha to the market for green fuels.

Fjord PtX opens the door to the decarbonization of aviation. Excess heat from the plant will be used for district heating of approximately 11,000 households, reducing the carbon footprint of the local utility company, Aalborg Forsyning.

Fjord PtX is a project collaboration between Nordværk, Aalborg Forsyning, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

Fjord PtX will be among the first PtX plants in Europe on a larger scale, contributing to the much-needed acceleration of the decarbonization journey towards carbon neutrality in 2050. In addition, it will be a key driver for the commercialization of a technology that can form the basis for the establishment of an eFuels industry in Aalborg and Denmark.
